Front garden makeover

Chelsea, London

This client came to Bamboo Landscaping with a simple brief: smarten up the approach to their Chelsea home, in keeping with the style of the building.

The low boundary walls were crumbling away, the paving was worn and dirty and it needed something to contrast with the predominant brickwork. We chose sandstone to create a clean, sharp pathway up to the house and built new steps that contrast elegantly with the brick, the white pillars and the black front door. Slate planters with boxus topiary balls on either side of the porch provide the finishing touch.

The existing yew hedge (taxus baccata) on the right was trimmed back and a border of white Cotswold gravel softens the line between this and the sandstone path. On the left, we grubbed up the old hedge and planted new boxus to complement the yew and maintain the theme of straight lines, drawing the eye to the front door.
